Amar Grewal-Thethay

Amar Grewal-Thethy is a partner in the Corporate/Commercial department and has considerable experience in advising clients on corporate and financial matters.  He has been extensively involved in capital markets, mergers and acquisitions (particularly cross border M&A), corporate restructurings and joint ventures.  Amar also advises on various aspects of competition and telecommunications law, commercial and trade agreements and general regulatory compliance.  A qualified Kenyan Advocate, Mr Grewal-Thethy’s clients consist primarily of local and multi-national corporate clients in finance, telecommunications, investment sectors and private equity funds.  His clients include IFC, Barclays Plc, DHL Deutsche Post, TransCentury Limited, Puma Energy and Pernod Ricard.

  • Representing global investment funds Rural Impulse Fund (Luxembourg) and NMI AS (Norway) in connection with multi-million dollar investment into Kenya’s leading deposit taking microfinance institution, Kenya Women Finance Trust Limited (2014).

  • Catalyst / Aspire Group multi-million dollar joint venture with Sunshine Beach Hotels for the development of modern ocean front business and leisure residences in Mombasa (2014).
  • Representing JSE listed clothing retail giant, Woolworths SA in structuring a joint venture with leading fashion house Deacons Kenya (2013).
  • Kenyan counsel to Toyota Tsusho Corporation in connection with Euro 2.3 billion acquisition of CFAO SA (France) from the PPR Group (2013).
